Here’s a recipe for a squishy dough to play with. We like it because you can tailor the color combinations to the kids’ whims-du-jour.

1 C (250 ml) water 1 C (250 ml) flour 2 t (10 ml) cream of tartar 1 T (15 ml) vegetable oil 1/2 C (125 ml) salt * drops of food coloring or non-toxic paint
- Dissolve coloring in water.
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan.
Place on low heat, stirring constantly until rubbery. Dough will leave sides of pan- Cool and knead for a few minutes.
- Store in an airtight container.
My Mom used to make this for us!!! I hated it because I wanted REAL Play Dough not homemade. God, I’m so glad I didn’t have to raise me.
🙂 i’m surprised the kids aren’t demanding customized colors. i probably ought to learn my additive color charts just so i can come up with the fairy-friendly shades of pink and purple.
For coloring, we use washable hand paint (it doesn’t stain like food coloring does).
