Homemade Sports Drink

Here’s a recipe for a homemade sports drink I used on STP. It’s adapted from Arnie Baker’s Bicycling Medicine. I threw in the lime because I needed to use it up before it went bad. You could use any citrus fruit or unsweetened juice. Sports drink – adapted from Arnie Baker’s recipe 4 Valencia Oranges, […]

Populaire II

I wanted to do a warm up ride before Seattle to Portland this weekend. I noticed SIR had a 100k populaire on Saturday in Olympia, an area I know very little about. I enjoyed riding with SIR in March because they’re very down-to-earth and sociable. The ride started at the Fish Bowl Pub in Olympia.

Flying Wheels 2004

What a great day for cycling! On Saturday, I rode Flying Wheels, Cascade Bicycle Club’s summer century. The event (map, cue sheet) is three loops along the rural roads of eastern King and Snohomish counties. Tour de Blast 2004

Taken at point #5 on the map Last year’s Tour de Blast was rainy and miserable. However, as time and endorphins worked their magic, I forgot about all that. When registration was available in July, I eagerly signed up, hoping to score a low registration number. I got up at 3:30 a.m., ate breakfast, checked

Sara’s Southend Saunter

I was feeling more social than usual and did a Cascade Bike Club ride yesterday. Tom and Sara’s Southend Saunter starts at Ft. Dent park, in Tukwila, doing a 77-mile, counter-clockwise loop through West Seattle, Des Moines, Redondo Beach, Browns Point, and Kent. Over the river andthrough the woods?! Microsoft Streets and Trips failed abysmally

Snoqualmie Pass

I woke up too late to join the paceline practice with Cascade Bicycle Club. Instead, I went on a more local ride from North Bend to Snoqualmie Pass, the lowest way to cross from west to east over the Cascades. I parked at the “Factory Outlet” mall in North Bend, noting the “Bicyclists, Skateboards and

Daffodil Classic 2004

Time to build more condos! I rode Tacoma Wheelmen’s Daffodil Classic again this year. The ride starts in Orting, WA, a town northwest of Mt. Rainier. Signs labeled “Volcano Evacuation Route” abound, though the routes don’t look like they’d be the easiest to follow. As Gardner noted, the infrequent, but highly-destructive mud flows have not
